About Me

Hi there!   I'm Helen French, welcome to my studio.      I am a mixed media artist, working currently mostly in acrylics, and in semi abstract style.  Living on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula in Australia, surrounded by gentle countryside, fresh sea air, coastal walks and a slower pace of life than the city.  Where I live is a popular holiday destination for city-dwellers, but the rest of the year it's peaceful and a bit sleepy.

My light and airy studio is located within the Dromana Gallery and Creative Hub, such a creative and vibrant community with regularly changing exhibitions, workshops, artists and visitors in and out - there is always a welcome distraction when I need one.  If you are local, you're very welcome to pop in to see my Studio and my work, and the Gallery too.

I didn't study art formally, my career path was quite different and corporate in nature, but art, craft, and general creativity have always been a part of my adult life, fitting in between work and raising 3 sons.  I took classes with some very talented artists whenever I could, learnt and practised and also taught.

These days I am Grandma to 6, and after retiring from my career I travelled and explored some of the world, but what I really need to do each day is to create.   About 10 years ago I also studied metalsmithing, and I love making wearable art in the form of one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery which I also show and sell at Dromana Gallery.

But I really am not myself if I can't paint - every day I head to my Studio, open the door and smile.   It's definitely my happy place.

I also sell my art through Bluethumb.com.au, an online art gallery for Australian artists, and through Dromana Gallery, 8 Beach St, Dromana VIC.
